What is Organic Coconut Sugar?

Peak Supps Organic Coconut Sugar is made from the sap harvested from coconut trees. Used as a popular alternative to other sugars in South Asian regions, coconut sugar is used for various recipes in baking, cooking, decoration and for teas, coffees or other drinks.

Coconut sugar resembles brown sugar but gives an extra kick with a mild taste of butterscotch / caramel. For cooking, coconut sugar offers a very low melting temperature but also has a high burning temperature. It can be used in making icing to decorate your creations.

Coconut sugar has a low Glycemic Index (GI) rating of 35, due to this it is released into the body slowly which gradually raises blood sugar levels. Compared to regular table sugar which has a GI rating of 65. Coconut sugar is a healthier alternative as table sugar is released more quickly which gives a spike of blood sugar levels instead.

Recommended Intake

As a food, we recommend using moderately as an alternative to other types of sugar.

Nutty Granola Recipe:

Ingredients: 4 teaspoons Coconut Sugar, 90g chopped hazelnuts, 2 teaspoons coconut oil (melted), 80g flaked almonds, 50g desiccated coconut, 30g oats, 1 tablespoon maple syrup.

Method: Mix ingredients until well coated. Spread on a tray lined with baking parchment. Bake in the oven a 180°C. After 10 minutes, give it a shake and turn down the oven to 160°C. Bake for a further 15-20 minutes. Leave to cool before serving and store in an airtight container.
