What is Starflower / Borage Oil?
Borage oil is pressed from the seeds of the Borago officinalis plant. It is a rich source of gamma linoliec acid (GLA) which is an essential fatty acid. When consumed, a large part of the gamma linoleic acid (GLA) is converted into dihomo GLA. However, both substances are considered Omega 6 Fatty acids. Borage oil is becoming increasingly popular as it provides one of the highest amounts of GLA of all seed oils. Other plants such as Evening primrose oil contain GLA and have similar benefits, though evening primrose oil generally provides ~9% GLA, compared to Borage Oils 19% GLA content. Making Borage oil more popular for those using the supplement for its GLA content.
