What is Psyllium Husk?

Psyllium is a prebiotic fibre (similar to Inulin) made from the husks of the Plantago genus. It is known for its laxative properties which has made it popular for digestive use. Many diets are low in fibre, which is essential for healthy digestion. Psyllium can be used in a variety of recipes inluding smoothies, soups and baked goods.

Peak Supps Psyllium Husk Powder’s country of origin is India and is a finely ground version of psyllium husks (mesh 60) and is a convenient way of taking Psyllium. Due to it being finely ground, it disperses more easily in liquid than the husks which makes it easier to drink.

*Warning – To make sure it reaches the stomach, Psyllium Husk Powder should be taken with plenty of water. Due to the fibre expansion, this product is not suitable for people with swallowing difficulties.

Mini Flatbreads Recipe:

Ingredients: 2 tablespoons Psyllium Husk Powder, 1 tablespoon mild curry powder, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 40g butter (melted), 250ml boiling water, ½ teaspoon salt, 60g coconut flour, ¼ teaspoon garlic (crushed).

Method: Put all of the dry ingredients in a bowl. Gradually add the butter and hot water and knead until it forms a dough. Leave to cool for 20 mins. Take 1/6 of the dough and press flat into a hot frying pan with oil. Flip when golden brown. Remove from the heat when cooked on both sides and enjoy.
