Fructose is a naturally occurring sugar in an assortment of foods such as honey, fruit and vegetables. It is highly recognised within the sport industry as a low glycemic index carbohydrate, often scoring between 19 on the glycemic index.
Low glycemic (GI) carbohydrates provide a controlled, steady release of energy into the body. Fructose has a reduced impact on blood glucose levels in comparison to other carbohydrates such as Dextrose. It is a popular ingredient in isotonic energy drinks, due to its ability to help replenish liver glycogen.
Carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function (contraction) after highly intensive and/or long-lasting physical exercise, leading to muscle fatigue and the depletion of glycogen stores in skeletal muscle.
Fructose is recommended for active individuals looking to increase carbohydrate consumption, overall calories or for endurance/high intensity exercise.
It is frequently mixed with maltodextrin or dextrose in a 2:1 ratio to create a varied glycemic index. To obtain maximum results we recommend 4g per kg of body weight, within 4-6 hours at varied dosages throughout training.
We recommend using 30-50g of fructose with 200-300ml of water, or added to a post workout protein shake. Best taken pre, intra and post workout
