What is Maltodextrin?
Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide produced from starch by partial hydrolysis. It is a glucose polymer and is considered to be a complex carbohydrate although it has an extremely high glycemic index (GI) rating of 110. Carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function (contraction) after highly intensive and/or long-lasting physical exercise, leading to muscle fatigue and the depletion of glycogen stores in skeletal muscle. It is important to refuel the bodies glycogen stores quickly after intense exercise. We recommend consuming Maltodextrin within a four-hour period of training, as the benefits are optimal when the glycogen stores in skeletal muscle are lowest.
