What we're doing to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Recycling at Peak Supps HQ
We care about OUR environment! Our mission is to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We make every effort to use recyclable materials, as well as minimise waste across our business.
We educate all staff about the importance of recycling in and outside of work. We advise our staff to reduce their carbon footprint daily through simple measures such as encouraging them to car share, cycle, or walk to work. We encourage all staff to read documents on-screen rather than printing when possible.
In Peak Supps HQ we try to recycle as much as possible in-house. Therefore we have invested in bailing machinery which allows us to bail our cardboard and plastic separately. This allows us to pass this on to recycling plants who repurpose the material allowing it to be reused.
As we are based in Wales new laws have been put in place to improve the quality and quantity of how we collect and separate waste.
Therefore we now internally sort the following: Food, Paper and card, Glass, Metal, plastic and cartons.
Recycling at Peak Supps
We believe in transparency! As a brand, we are completely transparent with our products & ingredients. This also includes our packaging. Our current bags are not recyclable, and we know this is an issue for a lot of our customers. Please read on to understand why and what we are doing about it.
Why are our bags non-recyclable and not made out of recycled materials?
The main factor for us not using recyclable bags or recyclable materials is the long shelf life of our products. Unfortunately, we are unable to use biodegradable packaging due to the impact it would have on product quality. For example, some of our products have a long shelf life of 2-5 years, a biodegradable paper bag doesn't offer the same long shelf life protection as a plastic alternative. Therefore there is a trade-off between product quality and recyclability. We have experienced this first hand as we have trialled and used a combination of paper & plastic.
What we're doing about it?
In 2020, we changed our bags to use 50% less plastic. After trialling and testing them, we found these bags were not to our standard to keep product quality, especially with sensitive hygroscopic products. Although our efforts are not paying off just yet - Recyclable packaging is in our 5-year goal. We are keeping a close eye on the packaging sector and any relevant developments in recyclable pockets. Our team will continuously research and work closely with our bag manufacturers to further reduce plastic and achieve biodegradable or recyclable packaging.
What packaging of ours is recyclable?
All of our postal materials are recyclable, including our cardboard, paper and padded mail bag packaging which is 100% recyclable. We also plan to replace our plastic case tape with a paper version.
