What is Black Pepper?

Black Pepper is a spice which is one of the most common kitchen ingredients used today. Due it’s strong flavour, it can be added to most recipes to provide an extra kick of heat. It can be used in a variety of recipes such as seasoning for different meats, soups & vegetables.

Piperine is the active ingredient found in Black Pepper, this provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Antioxidants play a role in protecting DNA, proteins and lipids from oxidative stress and can help fight free radicals.

Black Pepper is also used to aid the absorption of certain supplements. One example is its use in Turmeric supplements to help the absorption of Curcumin into the body.

As a spice, we recommend adding 1g (½ teaspoon) to cooking recipes; alternatively, adjust to taste.

Salt & Pepper Crackers Recipe:

Ingredients: 1/8 teaspoon (0.25g) of Black Pepper, 1 tablespoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, 2 tablespoons butter (chilled and cut into small pieces) 2 cups of plain flour, 2/3 cup of milk.

Method: Preheat the oven to gas mark 7, 220°C, fan 200°C. Combine the flour, sugar, salt & Black Pepper in a bowl. Add the butter and mix well then add the milk. Place the mixture onto a floured surface and knead. Roll into balls, half them and turn them into rectangles. Roll them paper-thin and transfer to a baking sheet and sprinkle with salt & pepper. Lightly cut into desired size and bake until turned golden (10-15 minutes). Once cooled, break into desired size and enjoy.
