5 Ways To Practice Gratitude
Living in a competitive, fast-paced world, it can become all too easy to focus on the negatives and what we're lacking, rather than appreciating what we have and practicing gratitude.
In this blog, we will discuss different ways to make practicing gratitude a daily habit.
What is gratitude?
Gratitude is the act of expressing thanks and being appreciative of the positives in our lives. Gratitude allows us to be thankful to those around us and give credit to those we are grateful for.
What research says about gratitude
"When we express gratitude and receive the same, our brain releases dopamine and serotonin, the two crucial neurotransmitters responsible for our emotions, and they make us feel ‘good’. They enhance our mood immediately, making us feel happy from the inside."
Ways to include gratitude in your daily routine...
1. Start a gratitude journal
Writing down the things you are grateful for is a great way of practicing gratitude. The more often you write down things you are grateful for, the easier it is to find things you're grateful for. According to research, gratitude journaling enhances mood, promotes happiness, and helps you sleep better (1).
2. Practice meditation
Using meditation is another great way of practicing gratitude. Meditation allows you to be in touch with your inner mind and focus on what you're grateful for in the present moment. Meditation gives the opportunity to become more in-depth with your mind and focus on your thoughts.
3. Set yourself a challenge to say thank you more
Making a conscious effort to be more thankful in day-to-day life helps you appreciate those around you. Remembering to give thanks to those around you regularly helps create a routine.
4. Spend time in nature
Spending time in nature is a great way to reflect on the beauty of what's around us, allowing us to take time out of our busy lifestyles and give thanks to the world.
5. Mindful wake up
Another way to practice gratitude is to wake up and dedicate the first ten minutes of your morning to mindfulness. For the first part of your day, avoid checking your phone and allow your mind to focus on your intentions for the day.
