We've recently seen a massive surge in sales for Taurine powder and capsules, thanks to the mainstream media publishing the health benefits of Taurine... Before we get into the articles, let's take a quick look at what Taurine is.
What is Taurine?
Taurine is an amino acid that is found in foods such as meat, fish and dairy products. Amino acids are used for several bodily functions including creating proteins and enzymes. Amino acids are broken down into three different groups: essential, non-essential and conditional amino acids.
Taurine is considered a ‘conditional essential amino acid’, meaning that for the majority of individuals it is produced in the body, but for maximum stores Taurine has to be consumed through diet or supplementation. It is found in high concentrations in white blood cells, skeletal muscles, heart muscles and the central nervous system.
Peak Supps Taurine Powder is 100% pure with nothing added or taken away. Taurine is a popular pre bed supplement due to its role as a neurotransmitter. It is also a common key ingredient in energy drinks and can be taken pre/post workout.

So, here's the main study which has got everyone talking 'Taurine deficiency as a driver of aging'
Although the study is only based on mice and monkeys and no human trials yet, it only gets us thinking about the potential benefits taurine has on humans. This study brought an international team of researchers tested the effects of a daily dose of Taurine on middle-aged mice and rhesus macaques – they were 14 months old and 15 years old, respectively, at the time of the trial. The amount of taurine in the blood of mice, monkeys and humans naturally decline with age, so the team was curious whether an extra dose of the amino acid might be beneficial.
Their conclusion:
Taurine abundance decreases during aging. A reversal of this decline through taurine supplementation increases health span and life span in mice and worms and health span in monkeys. This identifies taurine deficiency as a driver of aging in these species. To test whether taurine deficiency is a driver of aging in humans as well, long-term, well-controlled taurine supplementation trials that measure health span and life span as outcomes are required.(1)
Due to taurine being a very popular ingredients in most energy drinks the benefits of taurine have been linked to energy drinks. Due to the number of other ingredients in energy drinks they wouldn't be our number 1 supplement recommendation to get you to 100 years old, obviously we'd only recommend energy drinks to give you wings! 🤣
